In partnership with the Markham Wesley Center, Kids Rights Canada conducted grassroots research to explore how children truly perceive Artificial Intelligence.

In this community research project, we engaged new immigrant and refugee children in the Greater Toronto Area through innovative, play-based research. We empowered them to safely and confidently articulate their lived digital experiences.

Our research uncovers how youth navigate the AI algorithms, exploring their use of AI tools and reframing these systems as tools for inquiry. By shifting from a protection-only mindset to an empowerment approach, we aim to empower the voices of historically marginalized youth to become active digital citizens. Ultimately, this project elevates children’s authentic voices directly to policymakers, advocating for a future built on “Safety by Design”.
